Dear participant, thank you very much for registering for this experiment. Please read the following information carefully before you start.
Who we are
We are researchers at the Technical University Berlin from the Chair of Work, Engineering and Organizational Psychology and practitioners from the Institute for Radiology of Summerfield Medical Clinic interested in Human-Automation-Interaction.
Procedure of the study
First, please read the consent form carefully. The total duration of the study will be approximately 35 minutes. You will work on a task on the computer in which you decide as a radiologist whether X-ray images show potentially malignant tissue. At the beginning you will be given all the information you need to complete the task. You will work on the tasks in several blocks, giving you the opportunity to take breaks whenever you wish. If you have any further questions, please contact the experimental supervisor by e-mail.
While performing the study
Please stay in a quiet environment to ensure that you are not distracted during the experiment. Zooming in and out of the browser window is not allowed in this study and will result in disqualification as it would compromise comparability. Please follow the instructions on the web page to continue with the experiment instead of using the forward or backward functions of the browser. Please do not try to reload the page. In this case the experiment will abort automatically! Please note that attention checks (short questions) will be carried out from time to time during the study to check that you are participating attentively in the study. Participants who fail one or more attention checks and/or completed the experiment unrealistically fast will be excluded. In this case, no compensation will be paid to these participants even after completing the experiment.
Voluntariness and anonymity
Participation in the study is voluntary. You may terminate your participation in this study at any time without giving any reason. The data and personal information collected in the course of this study and described above will be treated confidentially. For example, those project staff members who have access to personal data through direct contact with you are bound by confidentiality. The publication of the results of the study will be in anonymous form, i.e., without your data being able to be assigned to your person.
Possible risks
The study is not associated with any psychological or physical risks.
Remuneration
For the successful completion of the experiment, you will be credited with compensation in the amount of 1 VP hour for Human Factors students at TU Berlin. You will receive all further information about this at the end of the study.
What information will be stored
We store the answers to all tasks and questions, and the time it takes you to answer each question. In addition, we store information about whether tabs or programs other than the browser tab running the study were clicked, whether you zoomed in or out during the experiment, and the time and date you completed the study.
Data Privacy
The collection of your personal data described above is completely anonymized, i.e. at no point is your name requested. Before starting the data recording, you will generate a code. A link between the generated code and the raw data is only available to the experimental team, will not be passed on to third parties and will be deleted after 4 weeks, the period of possible objection by the participants. Accordingly, after this time, it is no longer possible to draw conclusions about the person in question. For this purpose, please contact the experimental team by email.
I hereby declare my consent to participate in the study described above.
I agree that the collected subjective and objective data will be stored in anonymized form and evaluated for scientific purposes (cf. Art. 89 GDPR). Personal data, such as this consent form, will be kept strictly confidential and stored separately. The disclosure of personal data to third parties is excluded.
My participation in the study is voluntary, therefore I can cancel the study at any time without giving reasons. I know that in this case I am entitled to a refund for the hours completed up to this point. I can also request deletion of my data after the fact. To do so, I must contact the contact person specified above within four weeks.
I agree that my anonymized data may be stored and further used and published for research purposes and that it will be stored for at least 10 years.
I have read and understood the participant information in full. Furthermore, I had the opportunity to ask questions and they were answered to my satisfaction.
